The catalogue will summarize information
on 3 subfamilies, 9 tribes, 29 subtribes, 76 genera, 1160 species, 25 subspecies
and synonyms.
The majority of published references to these
taxa are included. In addition, generic types species are listed and data
on type specimens provided . This is the first true catalogue of Australian
Buprestidae since the checklist of Carter (1929):
Carter, H. J. 1929. A check list of the Australian Buprestidae. With tables
and keys to sub-families,
tribes, and genera (by A. Théry).
Australian Zoologist 5(4):265-304.
Future developments may include
the publication of interactive keys and a collection of photos and drawings
of representative Australian taxa.
On the following
pages
are low-resolution colour renderings prepared for the web version, and possibly
the hard copy, of the catalogue by André Olwage, a South African artist. |
